[LUG]Re: 10" 4u server rack

Hi All

Thanks for all the advice and suggestions.

I simply want to have a go at playing sysadmin! But develop skills during winter cold and quiet months. So a 10" rack containing a Mini ITX, ethernet routing, 2 PI 5s and a UPS. I don't intend to expand on that but as Simon has suggested I probably will! I have already thought about a small monitor for stats! Maybe a KVM switch.

I'll let you know how I get on.

I have something very similar at home that I use as a patch cabinet, and have a small server and a couple of 5-way unmanaged switches in. The seller checked twice with me that I knew what I was buying, because he'd had so many people return them because they expected a 19" standard rack size.

It's fine - but it's just a box to shove stuff in and get it out of sight. As with all boxes, they end up being too small and over-stuffed, but we start with good intentions.

Obviously note that it's not a proper rack since it's not 19", so absolutely nothing that's advertised as "rack mounted" will fit it - but hopefully you're aware of that. Not everyone needs to rack mount stuff, and you can still get patch panels to fit these odd sizes and make them more useful.

Hi All

For a long time I have wanted to play with a server rack. I have a mini itx board that I can fit and I want to add a couple of pi5 and then a ups, network thingy. It is for home and something that I have never done before but just fancy doing. I was looking at getting something like this

https://deskpi.com/products/deskpi-rackmate-t1-2?pr_prod_strat=e5_desc&pr_rec_id=601e4bdc1&pr_rec_pid=7878680248476&pr_ref_pid=8296852258972&pr_seq=uniform

Any thoughts or better ideas for equipment please? This is a winter play project and the server rack is the first purchase.

Thanks

Kind regards
