[LUG]Re: Creating a Ubuntu Boot drive

Hi Sebastian

Thanks for the reply. I have tested the drive and it seems fine. I am trying to install on a Lenovo ThinkPad and it does see the drive. I am going to have a look at the secure boot tip. That might help.

Thanks

Rich

Dear Richard,

Just checking - you did use dd with the right architecture .iso file for your computer (amd64, aarch64 etc.)? It won't boot if you don't have the matching one.

If the architecture is correct, it should 'just' boot; there's no special thing that you have to do. I think it's very unlikely that there is any problem with dd. Therefore, it seems likely to me that there's another problem, such as:

Secure Boot (it must be disabled to install Ubuntu)

Faulty USB drive - this one has happened to me before!

Boot order (some motherboard firmware skips trying to boot from USB in order to make the ordinary boot process seem faster)

Hope that helps a bit!

Best wishes,

Sebastian
