That you are seeing the same error message from GRUB even when attempting to boot from the USB stick is annoying, but not unfixable. Live USB ISOs are designed for your laptops's BIOS to boot them directly, without the need for GRUB. If you can get into the laptop's BIOS settings then there will be an option for changing the boot sequence to put the Live USB above your laptops internal hard drive (make sure you have the LIVE USB plugged in before opening the BIOS settings). If getting into the BIOS is difficult or your BIOS doesn't support booting from USB (possible if your laptop is more than 10 years old), then you could try burning the ISO onto a DVD. BIOSs usually default to a disc if one is available. Good luck and best wishes, Sebastian Freenode 'seabass' PS. Technically, the Live USB may use it's own GRUB behind the scenes but it shouldn't have the same error message as your laptop's GRUB. -- The Mailing List for the Devon & Cornwall LUG https://mailman.dcglug.org.uk/listinfo/list FAQ: http://www.dcglug.org.uk/listfaq
