FYI Some Facebook videos played sound, and the scrubbing worked (small pictures as you scroll through, but the video didn't play correctly (fuzzy static image or black background). The issue has been around a while but seems to be getting worse, presumably Facebook using VP9 more with Linux browsers. On inspection the browser console in developer tools shows a complaint about VP9 codec not being available in WEBM. Eventually found the right VP9 bug report in Debian. https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=916451 Workaround might be to use User Agent switcher plugin to select an older browser (Safari for Linux works, but gives an "upgrade your browser" warning in Facebook, similarly mobile browsers all trigger other codecs to be used but mess with Facebook's layout horribly). Debian Buster is frozen, so you might as well upgrade desktops at the next convenient point, and help remove the last few bugs before you break your servers. I am probably the last Debian stable desktop user on the planet anyway. -- The Mailing List for the Devon & Cornwall LUG https://mailman.dclug.org.uk/listinfo/list FAQ: http://www.dcglug.org.uk/listfaq
