A battery lasts about 18 months being permanently on. George On 30/07/18 22:07, Julian Hall wrote:
I've used a Logitech trackball previously on my desktop. Very useful if you have limited space. The only issue here is that it's battery powered; I would personally prefer something wired or you risk being without a mouse if your batteries die when you're out.Julian On 30/07/18 21:25, George Parker wrote:My wife has quite a nice laptop but can't get on with touch pads at all. She uses a logitech M570 roller ball mouse which doesn't move, as follows:https://www.amazon.co.uk/Logitech-Wireless-Mouse-Trackball-Windows/dp/B0042BBR2S/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1532981988&sr=8-3&keywords=rollerball+mouseA bit pricey but, hey, she's worth it. She got the idea from our son who uses it for gaming on a laptop.George On 30/07/18 19:44, mr meowski wrote:No - trackpad on old hps not good - some sensitive from about 3" away, keybd 1/2 inch away from trackpad! Imagine I've got it on my lap in the car! there seem to be some finger mounted things but they have 1.5m of cable and I cant see the fingermounting working in typing situations. Though I am wondering if I can 3dprint something onto a bulldog clip!Sorry, I was being facetious as usual! Well, for when you really, really _have_ to use a laptop with a crappy or broken touchpad in the car (which is actually something that happens for me a lot) the simplest solution is a flat bit of plywood the rightsize and shape? About as deep as a laptop footprint and as many extra cmwide to give you just enough room for either one of those teeny tiny usb/wireless mice or a trackball I guess? You could even velcro a trackball down. I've got a bit of plywood here that I use for just that but around the house - measuring it, it's 37x29cm. That's comfortable for any size laptops but presuming yours is a 15" you'd want it to be a bit wider than that to have enough space on the side. Maybe 50cm? Dunno how big your car is but it might even slide under the front seats. And yeah, older HP trackpads do often suck a lot to be fair. Does yours really activate from 3" though? Holy crap!
