Hi Richard, I'd echo Gordons advice. I'd recently experienced some slow Local Area Network performance too, it turned out my cheapo switch had decided it wasn't going to run at 1Gb/s on any port I plugged the NAS into. Having tried several known working CAT 5e cables I replaced the switch with a more reputable cheapo switch, a Netgear GS308 at Â20, https://www.comms-express.com/products/netgear-gs308//?keyword=&campaign=197286677&ad=13920687077&ADtype=pla&Productcode=857205200&gclid=EAIaIQobChMImN_q6-Sd2AIVy73tCh07WAc5EAQYASABEgJ2tvD_BwE Plug everything into the switch, including the router, and it'll keep all the local traffic off your broadband router, and your LAN running at Gb speeds. My broadband router has Gb ports but it wouldn't pass traffic at true Gb throughput speeds, probably because it's built to a price for the ISP company, i.e. utter rubbish. After all as long as it'll pass traffic at broadband speeds, <=24Mb/s what more does it need to do? Andrew. -----Original Message----- From: list [mailto:list-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Gordon Henderson Sent: 22 December 2017 13:48 To: list@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: Re: [LUG] Router On Fri, 22 Dec 2017, Richard Brown wrote: > Hi > > Just been trying to sort out my network by cabling as much as I can! > Just ran into an issue. Why not just get a little 5-port Gb network switch? One port to the existing router and the other 4 to your home devices... Or get an 8-port, etc. if you have more devices.
