So, what all this seems to be saying is that a lot of people don't like what systemd is doing to Linux but that the majority are taking the pragmatic approach and going with the flow. In fact as a mere desktop user and not a sysadmin, also not a person who runs a server (but I may do so soon), I shouldn't care a monkeys about what my desktop does underneath as long as it does what I want. But.. if I took that attitude why on earth would I not be running Windows (whichever one) and going with the flow? Because it goes against my principles. I have been involved in desktops from when they ran DOS and made my living for a while from maintaining them. I was uncomfortable then with Microsoft and my home computer ran DRDOS if I recall correctly. I have fought the good fight ever since and, correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that Systemd is the thin edge of the wedge into making Linux into big conglomerated lumps, not yet proprietary but just wait, instead of manageable, efficient pieces of code that do one thing well. I think that my next step may be to install Devuan under Black Box and see how I like it. But maybe I will wait until the Yuletide alcoholic haze clears. Thank you for your input. George OT.
