Macs are BSD and have native NFS support. That said I try to avoid file system based sharing of files, there are usually better done as applications. File systems are overly complex arrangement for sharing files. Witness the myriad file types and weird permission schemes under Linux. Even my simple file based backup doesn't understand fifo sockets correctly, although I could probably poke an option in the script somewhere. Understanding Linux permissions, ACLs, selinux, hard links, soft links, device files, various things from the kernel emulating a file system, swap files, sockets, simply to share some music or photos is nuts. Okay most of these are hidden in the kernel but you still have to allow for "kernel says no". One day we will start again, probably the same day we get a machine capable of replacing all the legacy code needed. -- The Mailing List for the Devon & Cornwall LUG https://mailman.dclug.org.uk/listinfo/list FAQ: http://www.dcglug.org.uk/listfaq
