However Mint have changed how the Update Manager prioritises updates. These are the current updates offered, but not currently installed. http://www.kaotic.co.uk/MintUpdate.jpg I don't know which of the kernel updates - if any - I ought to install, or if I actually need the systemd update. Any advice please? Kind regards, JulianJulian Just select them all, the updater will sort it out for you...Agreed - if in doubt, just install all updates unless there is some specific overriding reason for you not to. The systemd upgrade contains fixes for some pretty eye-watering issues so definitely don't skip on that and it also looks like you need to purge some old kernels from your system as well - the 4.4 and 4.8 series should have been long since replaced with 4.10 and 4.12 is on its way shortly. I'm just about to upgrade my long suffering Mint VM from 18.1 to 18.2 this afternoon and pre-upgrade, I'm already on 4.10.0-26-generic. You can completely purge all the old kernels and headers (once you have installed 4.10 and tested it works fine, of course) like so: sudo apt purge linux-image-4.8.0-* linux-headers-4.8.0-* \ linux-image-4.4.0-* linux-headers-4.4.0-* Personally I can't make much sense of the Mint update prioritisation thing - I'm not saying it's 'wrong' or 'bad', but it has attracted a lot of flak historically. The rule of thumb, particularly for non-experts, is ALWAYS INSTALL ALL UPDATES ALL OF THE TIME. No exceptions! Cheers
