One because they are way too > expensive and two because I have never used one so I won't advise about something > about which I know nothing. > Hi Neil, LOL ... you ought to re-evaluate .... I know from experience you would be hard pressed to find a like for like pc product cheaper. The quality and longevity far outweigh any notional price difference. Overall value for money is outstanding. I recently picked up a (13" Mac pro Early 2015 Retina display, i5 8GB, 128GB SSD ) from PC world , which after cashback discount was Â699. its equivalent spec HP is nearly Â200 more and it still not the same build quality. Nothing else compared especially on details like screen quality. Value and price are not the same thing. So while you might not want to recommend people spend money upfront... I can assure you mac's are really good value for money ... and also run linux! someone once quoted a mac is the best PC money can buy. In fact Linus used a Mac Pro G5 and an early intel Mac Pro to test linux for years and claimed the G5 was the best computer he ever owned. These people are not wrong... and you only need to check the price of an entry level mini mac to see they can also compete on price/value at the entry level end as well. Generic PC's, even vendor ones = compromise ... if your happy with that and want commodity disposable hardware go for it.... but with an average PC designed to live about 3-4years, while most mac's will cruise for 7-10 years it doesn't take a genius to work out which one costs more per year! All i would say is iMac's are the exception, avoid. .... Mini mac's (everyday), mac pro desktops (workstation) and macbook pros (pro mobile) however are IME best in class devices. > But thanks for the laugh, > > Neil > > -- > The Mailing List for the Devon & Cornwall LUG > https://mailman.dclug.org.uk/listinfo/list > FAQ: http://www.dcglug.org.uk/listfaq -- The Mailing List for the Devon & Cornwall LUG https://mailman.dclug.org.uk/listinfo/list FAQ: http://www.dcglug.org.uk/listfaq
