Remember that "A" in ADSL means asymmetric. Almost all Digital Subscriber Lines are asymmetric including the FTTC connection I have.
Acronyms get abused though, so VDSL, ADSL2, 2+, etc. Mostly for marketing purposes.
I don't think it's possible to order the old (up to) 2Mb SDSL lines anymore either. (Symmetric)
Even Virgin Media cable could technically be called ADSL - It's still an Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line... Although the term "subscriber line" may now be an anachronism to really mean telephone line.
