I have a dilemma with a site I have helped to put Opencart on the Opensource shopping cart, The original site had as many as 20 points of entry, all indexed over the years by google. The new site has the industry std index.php with a path defined for where on the site you are going. So on the Apache server I put a redirect, but I get messages from browsers saying "This redirect is never going to happen" as the address starts Outside of the root page (which is ~website/public_html/opencart/) as the old links were like ~website/public_html/stuff.php. so I removed the redirect (301 I hope as its on 1&1 server and it doesn't give you a lot of confidence as to what type it is, it also only gives me just 1 redirect). Now i have tried to "catch" the existing search index to the site by making a new ~website/public_html/index.php which is outside the root as it's above the opencat dir, and putting a php type redir to the opencart dir. then I've copied this and renamed it 20 times, for each link I can find from searching on google. I did use the Webmasters tools and de reg all the links which previously did this but I think Google has re-learnt them, Am I going to be playing cat & mouse forever with this? -- ________________________________________________________________________ Regards Kevin Lucas Minions Post Master(Sub) A dedicated Linux user /usr/bin/microsoft Skype minions_shop www.minionsbandb.co.uk www.tearooms.minionsbandb.co.uk FaceBook Minions_shop Po House, Minions, Liskeard Cornwall PL14 5LE 01579363386 -- The Mailing List for the Devon & Cornwall LUG http://mailman.dclug.org.uk/listinfo/list FAQ: http://www.dcglug.org.uk/listfaq
