Re: [LUG] noob in cornwall but not to linux

Hi All,

I'll be up for a meet, I'm near Redruth so not too far to pop down. I've been a Linux user for a good decade now but haven't really used it for anything more than the basics. Thought I'd resubscribe to the list since I'm doing the edx Introduction to Linux course and it'd be good to get social with the Linux locals. I also have a pi and arduino but not really played much with either.

Cheers,
Matt.

Some meet ups have been in excess of 30 people for BaB and the mails list has around 100 active subscribers.

Really, I'm 2 houses up from the chippy at Newlyn Bridge, wondering if theres a plack somewhere.

:) … I thought geography might be an issue, so was just going to do local, maybe a 20-30mile radius from PZ station as a sub community of DC-PLUG came to mind.

> So at the meetings .... Well, we used to get 3-4 turn up in the Shoreline Cafe in Paignton - not sure how many at the other venues. We sort of turned them into a Raspberry Pi jam now though - still in Paignton where we attract a dozen or so - but still only mostly the same handfull from the list itself.

cool, I'll pop in when i can.

I know the feeling, I had a coworking business in Surrey and while all the hype is there its just too specialised. It kind of reaffirmed we are a nation of bedroom & garage hackers.

> Exeter has a separate LUG - almost as well attended as the general Devon/Cornwall one. I suspect there are very few people purely in the Exeter LUG that are not in the DC LUG. There is also a monthly Pi Jam in Exeter too - in the Library next door to the new FabLab (as in literally the room next door, also in the library).

You're really selling it :)   I'm going to checkout some more venues before I setup some dates, but so far the new Tele-Graph building at Porthcurno and the co-working hub in PZ look feasible but each have caveats.  (location vs costs)

Is there anyone at Truro College out there … normally getting a lecture room isn't too complicated for a student?

If not I'm err'ing towards the Tele-graph… a little communications history, a cafe, wifi and BaB … If i get some +1's I'll work out a date in early sept.
