If it was just a matter of spending a hundred million dollars to make a few billion then everyone would be doing it and the returns would reduce to a normal business level. Bing is poor in comparison and below that you have virtually no real competition. I don't think it is Google's fault that they are making huge profits, it's just for some reason no-one wants to really take them on which is a shame.
