I'm wanting to root my Nexus5 so I can run a Linux on it. If I back it up with the Android SDK presumably a restore will set it to the way it was before rooting? It should be possible to root it without re-flashing but all the stuff I've found is windows based so any pointers?Tom te tom te tom
is this any help? http://schier.co/post/how-to-root-nexus-5-in-ubuntu-linuxI'm not sure that a restore would remove the root access. But if you are logged in with an evil google account all your apps, e-mails, contacts and stuff will reappear anyhow. SMS messages get lost, but there are a lot of apps for saving them (Avast back-up for example). Anything like photos you can just download with Airdroid or via USB.
