I think being based on ubuntu the software update software has additional drivers which allows you to enable / disable drivers easily. Unfortunately it Just works, I say that as I would much rather have Debian and go back to root / normal user and be able to boot in to a console , and use startx to start the gui if needed. So there is a trade off with having things work.
