Hi Brad,On Tue, 10 Dec 2013 10:39:54 +0000 Julian Hall <linux@xxxxxxxxxxxx> wrote: Hello Julian,It doesn't seem to be, although I don't know what the wwn-xxxxxxxxxIt's not. Device name would be in there. Could be the drive itself, the i/f on the mobo, or maybe just a dodgy cable or connector. Maybe you've tried changing some (or all) of the above items, I can't remember. If not, try plugging the drive into a different socket on the mobo, swapping the drive cable, etc. Although first port of call might be whether the drive is listed in the BIOS device list.entries are.Links to hard drives and their partitions. I only know because I added '-l' to the ls command when I did mine. My only issue with it being a hardware problem is that it does work /sometimes. Once or twice I have put a DVD in the drive and it's automounted with a prompt asking me what I want to do. Other times the disk has been in the drive at boot and it's been recognised and mounted, this being the more frequent behaviour. I would have thought had it been a physical hardware issue it wouldn't have mounted at all. Also as I've mentioned to bad apple previously, it's a triple-boot box - Windows XP, Windows 7 and Mint 15, and the drive behaves flawlessly in the other two OSs. Worth a try though, but as I am in a wheelchair it will have to wait for the weekend until a friend visits who can pull the box for me - I'm in South Wales otherwise I am sure I would get offers from the LUG to assist with that. Julian Following on from the above, I tried moving the mount points of the drives from /media/julian to /mnt - wouldn't accept mount -a as it said they were in use so I rebooted. None of the drives mounted as usual on the desktop or in the file browser, so I changed the fstab back to point them at /media/julian and they mounted as per usual. The DVD has also mounted on boot - with a disk in the drive so I've rerun some of the commands suggested by Brad and bad apple to see what it says while the drive is mounted: dev/disk/by-id now has this: julian@Cerce ~ $ cd /dev/disk/by-id julian@Cerce /dev/disk/by-id $ dir ata-PIONEER_BD-RW_BDR-207M ata-SAMSUNG_HD103SI_S1VSJ9BSA08425 ata-SAMSUNG_HD103SI_S1VSJ9BSA08425-part1 ata-SAMSUNG_HD103SI_S1VSJ9BSA08425-part2 ata-SAMSUNG_HD103SI_S1VSJ9BSA08425-part3 ata-SAMSUNG_HD103SI_S1VSJ9BSA08425-part5 ata-SAMSUNG_HD103SI_S1VSJ9BSA08425-part6 ata-SAMSUNG_HD103SI_S1VSJ9BSA08425-part7 ata-SAMSUNG_HD103SI_S1VSJ9BSA08425-part8 ata-SAMSUNG_HD103SI_S1VSJ9BSA08425-part9 scsi-SATA_SAMSUNG_HD103SIS1VSJ9BSA08425 scsi-SATA_SAMSUNG_HD103SIS1VSJ9BSA08425-part1 scsi-SATA_SAMSUNG_HD103SIS1VSJ9BSA08425-part2 scsi-SATA_SAMSUNG_HD103SIS1VSJ9BSA08425-part3 scsi-SATA_SAMSUNG_HD103SIS1VSJ9BSA08425-part5 scsi-SATA_SAMSUNG_HD103SIS1VSJ9BSA08425-part6 scsi-SATA_SAMSUNG_HD103SIS1VSJ9BSA08425-part7 scsi-SATA_SAMSUNG_HD103SIS1VSJ9BSA08425-part8 scsi-SATA_SAMSUNG_HD103SIS1VSJ9BSA08425-part9 wwn-0x50024e920136e039 wwn-0x50024e920136e039-part1 wwn-0x50024e920136e039-part2 wwn-0x50024e920136e039-part3 wwn-0x50024e920136e039-part5 wwn-0x50024e920136e039-part6 wwn-0x50024e920136e039-part7 wwn-0x50024e920136e039-part8 wwn-0x50024e920136e039-part9 julian@Cerce / $ I don't know what the new ata-SAMSUNG entries are about, but the PIONEER also seems to be ATA.. significant? udevadm info --query=all --name=sr0 now has: julian@Cerce / $ udevadm info --query=all --name=sr0 P: /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:09.0/ata3/host2/target2:0:0/2:0:0:0/block/sr0 N: sr0 S: cdrom S: cdrw S: disk/by-id/ata-PIONEER_BD-RW_BDR-207M S: disk/by-label/MIAMI_VICE_SEASON4_DISC06 S: disk/by-path/pci-0000:00:09.0-scsi-0:0:0:0 S: dvd S: dvdrw E: DEVLINKS=/dev/cdrom /dev/cdrw /dev/disk/by-id/ata-PIONEER_BD-RW_BDR-207M /dev/disk/by-label/MIAMI_VICE_SEASON4_DISC06 /dev/disk/by-path/pci-0000:00:09.0-scsi-0:0:0:0 /dev/dvd /dev/dvdrw E: DEVNAME=/dev/sr0 E: DEVPATH=/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:09.0/ata3/host2/target2:0:0/2:0:0:0/block/sr0 E: DEVTYPE=disk E: GENERATED=1 E: ID_ATA=1 E: ID_ATA_FEATURE_SET_PM=1 E: ID_ATA_FEATURE_SET_PM_ENABLED=1 E: ID_ATA_SATA=1 E: ID_ATA_SATA_SIGNAL_RATE_GEN1=1 E: ID_BUS=ata E: ID_CDROM=1 E: ID_CDROM_BD=1 E: ID_CDROM_BD_R=1 E: ID_CDROM_BD_RE=1 E: ID_CDROM_CD=1 E: ID_CDROM_CD_R=1 E: ID_CDROM_CD_RW=1 E: ID_CDROM_DVD=1 E: ID_CDROM_DVD_PLUS_R=1 E: ID_CDROM_DVD_PLUS_RW=1 E: ID_CDROM_DVD_PLUS_R_DL=1 E: ID_CDROM_DVD_R=1 E: ID_CDROM_DVD_RAM=1 E: ID_CDROM_DVD_RW=1 E: ID_CDROM_MEDIA=1 E: ID_CDROM_MEDIA_DVD=1 E: ID_CDROM_MEDIA_SESSION_COUNT=1 E: ID_CDROM_MEDIA_STATE=complete E: ID_CDROM_MEDIA_TRACK_COUNT=1 E: ID_CDROM_MEDIA_TRACK_COUNT_DATA=1 E: ID_CDROM_MRW=1 E: ID_CDROM_MRW_W=1 E: ID_FOR_SEAT=block-pci-0000_00_09_0-scsi-0_0_0_0 E: ID_FS_LABEL=MIAMI_VICE_SEASON4_DISC06 E: ID_FS_LABEL_ENC=MIAMI_VICE_SEASON4_DISC06 E: ID_FS_TYPE=udf E: ID_FS_USAGE=filesystem E: ID_MODEL=PIONEER_BD-RW_BDR-207M E: ID_MODEL_ENC=PIONEER\x20BD-RW\x20\x20\x20BDR-207M\x20\x20\x20\x20\x20\x20\x20\x20\x20\x20\x20\x20\x20\x20\x20\x20 E: ID_PATH=pci-0000:00:09.0-scsi-0:0:0:0 E: ID_PATH_TAG=pci-0000_00_09_0-scsi-0_0_0_0 E: ID_REVISION=1.21 E: ID_SERIAL=PIONEER_BD-RW_BDR-207M E: ID_TYPE=cd E: MAJOR=11 E: MINOR=0 E: SUBSYSTEM=block E: TAGS=:seat:uaccess:udev-acl: E: UDEV_LOG=3 E: UDISKS_PRESENTATION_NOPOLICY=0 E: USEC_INITIALIZED=1616642 cat /var/log/udev | grep sr0 has: julian@Cerce / $ julian@Cerce $ cat /var/log/udev | grep sr0 KERNEL[30.136914] add /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:09.0/ata3/host2/target2:0:0/2:0:0:0/block/sr0 (block) DEVNAME=sr0 DEVPATH=/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:09.0/ata3/host2/target2:0:0/2:0:0:0/block/sr0 UDEV [31.119900] add /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:09.0/ata3/host2/target2:0:0/2:0:0:0/block/sr0 (block) DEVNAME=/dev/sr0 DEVPATH=/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:09.0/ata3/host2/target2:0:0/2:0:0:0/block/sr0 julian@Cerce / $ Mount point appears to be /media/julian/$VOLUMENAME Brad, I'll try the echo command you mentioned in the other email the next time I boot and it's not recognised.. shouldn't have to wait too long...
