Yes, I have heard various differing reports about their support if anything goes wrong. Some people seem to get it sorted well, while others not so good.On 02/12/2013 08:48, Neil Winchurst wrote:On 01/12/13 20:06, Simon Redmond wrote:Got my last laptop from pcspecialist.co.uk <http://pcspecialist.co.uk>, very happy and not had any issues with it. Would definitely recommend them. SimonI also got my new laptop recently fro, Pcspecialist. The advantage for me was the ability to tweak the specification to my wishes. I am very pleased with the machine. NeilI also found the ordering process fantastic. If something goes wrong though, you're on your own (even if you buy Platinum Support). Their support is pitiful and they will continually try to fob you off with simple red herrings on their part that take aeons for you to prove wrong. Also, make sure the custom build is 100% right because if you've tinkered at all, they'll make you rebuild from scratch before "helping". And I think there's 1 person there that knows what Linux is - the majority is tailored for Windows. My machine had to go back 3 times before I could start using it... then we had the dents and cracks of travelling across the country so many times to deal with... in the end I just lived with what I had because I lost the will... then when the mobo failed... I'll stop now before I wind myself up...
However, unlike most such companies, they will let you specify no OS and reduce the price accordingly. You also have a lot of choice with the configuration. If anyone has found another such place I would like to hear about it. I know that Novatech will also let you buy a laptop without any OS but they are quite pricey anyway.
For anyone interested in a desktop without an OS I would suggest Elpatech. I bought my most recent desktop from them and I was very pleased. However they do not cater for laptops. Still worth a look.
