I use DoNotTrackMe (DNTMe). Seems to do what it says on the tin.
I did try ghostery for a while, but it wouldn't let some web sites work
without totally disabling it. Occasionally, DNTMe stops some features of
web sites working, but it's usually possible to set it up to work around
those problems.
