I'm perfectly happy to do banking over WiFi, I'm confident it is much safer than going to the bank in person, and I doubt WiFi increases my risk measurably, if at all over ethernet. Heck I do banking over mobile phone, and I know the network layer cryptography there is bust, so this is only marginally better than unencrypted WiFi as far as a determined or prepared attacker is concerned, but I know the data is still encrypted by TLS. I'd be far more worried about using WiFi for things which might not use good security, like uploading a website, various instant messaging services, login into services where the login page is served over HTTP (over a third of them - doh). Then again my bank accounts are probably not worth attackers travel to my house YMMV. -- The Mailing List for the Devon & Cornwall LUG http://mailman.dclug.org.uk/listinfo/list FAQ: http://www.dcglug.org.uk/listfaq
