Things are a little better in the UK but given our propensity to slavishly copy all of the worst aspects of American legalese I'm sure we'll reach parity with their almost comically unfair system before long. But then that was probably exactly what you meant when you said "nice expensive lawsuit", so I guess we're in agreement here. Being a roving self-employed consultant I have definitely had to start paying a lot more attention to the contractual/legal side of operations in the last few years, especially as I sometimes conduct pentests. In the good old days I'd barely glance at a contract, get on with my job and expect the client to be happy and pay up without question at the close. It's mostly the same these days, except now I actually have to properly read all the damn near incomprehensible paperwork cover to cover before I even think about touching a keyboard, and god knows I'm not a legal specialist. It's depressing. Bloody lawyers, ruining everything for us. This is why we can't have nice things.
