Maybe if you want social networks one answer is to use http://www.gnu.org/software/social/ I am sure Matt Lee can fill us in on this, there is a big announcement expected soon. Essentially it's a de-centralised social network. Built openly as the fsf have nothing to hide with regard to what the software is doing in the back ground. GNU social ensures data stays in your ownership.
