If you encrypt the WiFi you'll have to watch it when it is on the wire, and it all gets messy, but not WiFi specific. Most clients can do better watching their own usage, and if you are that remote it is probably a client you have. Most of the ADSL routers are Linux and will often give the per interface statistics (Packets Rx/TX, Bytes Rx/Tx) similar to the output of ifconfig, which will show if it is Lan or Wireless (at least since last power cycle) that is using the bandwidth. We saw one last month, where a client got a "your website has exceeded quota" warning, to discover someone in the USA had a borked Android phone, and Android Download manager had downloaded the same PDF file repeatedly for several days - bet they are glad it was on WiFi and not one of our more exploitative UK mobile data tariffs. It is better insight into this sort of traffic that tempts me to reflash my ADSL modem, but I dread turning it into something that need more maintenance. That and lack of native IPv6 support....
