This is on my 5 year old lowly 2.8GHz dual-core AMD-64 (but running 32bit as I wasn't too sure about my *need* for 64bit vs. the potential hassle of it) HP laptop. I have XFCE on there tweaked to look like Gnome2 and it is really quite solid. Even though I'm running Debian testing (which, I'm told, can sometimes have issues) I haven't run into any problems using it as a "desktop" machine (as opposed to a "server").
