I've put some initial setup stuff on https://projects.drogon.net/raspberry-pi/initial-setup1/ (which I'll be updating today to reflect some other changes too) Gordon These instructions are really thorough and easy to follow. Once I get thereplacement cable for the psu, that I need, I will use them to set mine up.
Thanks.I'm powering a 2nd Pi directly off my desktop PC now. Seems a few are doing it this way - the big issue is the avalable power out of the USB sockets - it's 140mA per socket (I previously thought it was 140mA in total, but there are 2 polyfuses). However there are lots of "whinges" abotu this on the forums - being too low and there are some creative solutions, but my take is to simply use a powered hub - I'm using a LOGIK one I bought from PC World for about £12. It comes with a 2A PSU and leaves me 4 ports should I need them (one on the Pi, 3 on the hub)
This more or less shows the setup: http://unicorn.drogon.net/mess3.jpg (the base is from http://www.skpang.co.uk/ ) Gordon
