Only just noticed this post. In case you haven't fixed the problem yet - I haven't touched my install for a while, but I'm pretty sure I got it from gnu
http://www.gnu.org/software/octave/download.html
and it worked fine (except for all those functions that aren't there and the syntax that's just sufficiently different to be frustrating!).
