Further to my previous thread on printers ....
When a new printer model comes out from a well known maker such as Epson
or HP, how long is it normally before it will work on Linux?
I have been looking around the net re printers. All reviews and other
info talk about a printer working on Windows and Mac OS's but never a
mention of Linux. Yet many of them probably work well under Linux, or
will eventually.
I am just wondering if it is pointless to consider any printer just on
the market.
Thanks
Neil

FAQ: http://www.dcglug.org.uk/listfaqIt probably depends on the model of printer. Some of the HP and Epson printers share a driver, can't remember exactly about HP inkjets but the laser printers tend to use PCL. Epson printers tend to support ESC/2 so it might be possible to use an earlier model driver although you might not get all the features.
I'd suggest having a look at the Linux Printing web site, or even manufacturer sites. Lexmark support Linux as so Samsung.
