Certainly not true of Mac OS since the mid-90's. Even Windoze has got the message now, I believe.
Also Linux has a strict separation between root and user space and consequently if a user ran an executable it would usually only affect the user and not the system as a whole.
True, but don't forget Mac OS X is built on darwin, which is derived from a BSD (Free, Open or Net, can't recall which), with the Mach microkernel underneath, so exactly the same applies.
