Hi Gordon, We may be trying to do slightly different things here. Mine is a relatively standard peer-to-peer network, and I just let the system sort itself out. I wasn't aware that one had to do anything to keep it synchronised.
I have 5 servers on 4 different LANs (one 300 miles away at the end of a VPN). The desire is that there is one centralised authentication mechanism for both Linuxy type logins and Windows 'drive' mounts. NFS will be used for server to server mounts, CIFS for everything else. (including Linux clients)
However, struggling with LDAP and it's requirements - I'm not convinced at all that the "L" in LDAP is 'light' at all, however...
Meanwhile, I have NIS everywhere, NFS for server mounts and CIFS for everything else. Each server's TDB files get synced from a central source. Poor mans NIS.. Punters need to use a web page to change password which then updates everything. It's not terribly scalable, but I suspect if this place ever gets that big they'll be looking at something else anyway...
Anyway, it seems to work Cheers, Gordon -- The Mailing List for the Devon & Cornwall LUG http://mailman.dclug.org.uk/listinfo/list FAQ: http://www.dcglug.org.uk/listfaq
