Hi Went to bed on Wednesday with no Broadband (Plus Net), it came back on for about an hour Thursday and then off again. I contacted BT Friday morning who said there was not problem with the line. I contacted Plus Net who confirmed that my line was OK but my modem was not working. A trip to PC World and £100 latter I return home to discover everything working OK!! Before I return my modem (still in its shrink wrap) is it likely I have an intermittent fault. I do not think it can me anything to do with technicians down holes for the last few days between here and Yelverton (or could it??). All the best Peter L-J
£100 for an ADSL Modem!?!? I think they saw you coming! The only way I would pay anything near to £100 for an ADSL modem/router would be if it was a Draytek model. Something like this would be a bit cheaper at 40 quid from Argos.
http://tinyurl.com/65hkvsg I'd also suggest having a look at this: http://www.thinkbroadband.com/tools/bt-master-socket.htmlIt can help you identify what type of phone socket you have. With any luck you'll have an NTE5 type socket. This type of socket is split, you can unscrew half of the plate and behind it you'll find another socket. This socket behind the plate is the master socket, try plugging your router directly into this socket with nothing else plugged in. Basically it'll rule out any extensions and things like that causing the issue.
If you've got the older type of socket then you're not allowed to take it apart, any extensions should be plugged into the socket itself (any wiring behind the faceplate is property of BT).
Maybe see if you could get an old router from Freecycle (they pop up occasionally, although you might find some of the ISP branded modems are locked to the particular ISP, I know some Sky routers are and the BT Home Hubs)... failing that could you maybe try borrowing a router for a few days?
