The default used to open after the 10 second count down.  During that time I could not move the cursor with the arrow keys.  I have not been able to open Windows since I partitioned.

Now the Grub page opens but the 10 seconds bottom line has disappeared so the only way I can open Ubantu is via the CD.

How are you moving the cursor

I use space bar to stop the default OS loading
then UP Down arrows to move to the OS of my choice
The mouse at this point is not yet activated.
and Enter to Boot.
