Any tips or catches to look out for when migrating a remote server (Ubuntu 9.04) to another (Ubuntu 10.04)? It runs LAMP, Postfix, Dovecot, Amavis, Spamassassing and Clam. I won't be doing it for a few weeks but I've never migrated a server and although I'm pretty confident it won't be too difficult I'm looking at building a strategy in my head now to make it as quick and painless as possible.
I've upgraded several Debian boxes remotely (although not all - still have one running Woody, although it's inside a VM these days) Never had any real issues, but ...
Make sure you have a remote console that can get you to the BIOS level, or if it's a VM, then you probably need whatever facilities exist for "power cycling" and VM console access, if possible. (So you can manually pass parameters to the lilo/grub boot, if you need to)
And if you're at all unsure, then build a test server locally, and upgrade that via the network/ssh (not screen/keyboard) and write down any tricky bits, etc.
