It's proprietary, but there are Linux versions. ($99, or $149 for the "pro" version). It originated on Amiga, so I guess it's been around for some time. http://www.pagestream.org/ I've not used it though, so I can't vouch for the quality of the software/vendor, or where it pitches in relation to MS Publisher or Scribus, although there are demo versions available and the manuals are available online. Apologies if it has already been mentioned and I missed it. Also the book on Scribus (Pittman, Schafer et al, "Scribus - the official manual" (Great Britain: FLES Books) 2009) is very comprehensive. It's not a tutorial though so you need some knowledge of standard DTP work-flow.
