Agreed,  I think we need to focus on getting people to at least open
their minds to alternatives in the form of free software,  that way if
they do eventually want to switch they have 3 tools they are at least
familiar with firefox,(et al) thunderbird and perhaps open / libre office.

Same, here it could be a stepping stone, which if it is, we can help
otherwise as a group moving over to free software is a step in the right
direction.

I am not too sure here,  it depends really on what we want to get across
to people,who the audience is, etc.

If presenting to fellow students you could ask some of your students to
do a presentation on their experiences of using and switching,

if the topic was more specialist, then Gordon for example could be asked
to do a talk on VOIP

As I guess something like this would be to the general public and
passers bye we need to keep it simple and jargon free without dumbing it
down too much.

Feedback forms would be essential part of such a first attempt,  we then
have a follow up lug meet with the people involved discuss feedback
which then goes in to future planning.
