Wow, lots of help and suggestions. Thanks everyone.To reply to some of the comments, I am not interested in a 'universal' backup. I have used Linux exclusively for about ten years now so I have no interest in other formats.
I would want to keep permissions etc so it seems that FAT32 will not do. By the way, is the 32 part of that referring to the number of bits? I am using a 64 bit version of Mint.
No suggestions yet about makes. The local computer shop sell Buffalo drives. Are they OK?
