Hi folks,The Blender Institute has released another short film. This new one, Sintel is about a girl who finds a wounded baby dragon and nurses it back to health.
I thought it was a really moving film and the quality was superb (it easily matches commercial rendered animation in quality, even if it is only about 15 minutes).
You can either download it in a variety of formats and resolutions (there's even talk about a 4K resolution version which could be shown in a cinema) and a variety of formats (MP4 - H264 with AAC audio, OGG - Theora video with Vorbis audio or DIVX - H264 with AAC audio) or you can simply watch it on Youtube (although it really doesn't do it justice, I ended up watching it on the PS3 on our telly.
Like Big Buck Bunny, and before that, Elephant's Dream I think it's a great way to show off what is capable using Open Source software such as Blender. I'm not sure about Sintel, but it was certainly possible to download all the Blender files for Big Buck Bunny and Elephant's Dream so I'd guess eventually they would make the content for Sintel available.
It might be of interest to some folks too that there are some videos and things about what they did in the making of Sintel, I wonder if some of this might be useful for budding graphics artists out there?
