Guess it depends what you use them for. I rarely use my dongle and when I do it's usually a little bit of light web browsing or e-mail. I don't use it for anything like downloading stuff (especially when I have unlimited 20Mbit broadband at home!).Sorry, I was confusing it for a broadband replacement!
Fair enough. If you get one on contract then you tend to get a better allowance for your money. I know some people who have used these mobile broadband dongles instead of a phone line and broadband but they don't tend to use much per month, maybe 2 or 3GB so it works out reasonably well for them.
I also have 1GB a month allowance on my mobile which I do use every day (although again just for web browsing and e-mail), this also generally lasts me well.Me too generally but I miss downloading stuff.
Yeah, I must admit, when I go on holiday to Cornwall I do miss being able to catch up with stuff on iPlayer, it's usually a case that we're out most evenings when on holiday so miss stuff that's on. Maybe next year I might invest in a Freeview PVR to get round this.
if a whole load of people heavily use the connection for Youtube, iPlayer, P2P etc then others may get a pretty lousy service. The whole thing badly needs a redesign :(
Yep, well I'm not sure what the fourth generation mobile broadband will be like (LTE is it? or Wi-Max?). Maybe it'll be better designed with higher usage in mind (I believe that when 3G networks started appearing it was in the late 90's/early 2000's or there abouts when we tended to be still on dialup).
I suppose it's a bit like Freeview and DAB, technologies designed in the 90's which (at least in the case of Freeview) are having upgrades to newer technology to cope with todays demands.
