Three have just updated their packages. They now offer an option of paying £2 for a day's mobile broadband, or 500MB whichever you use first. I thought that's good if you're not going to use it often, just bung 2 quid on it and you get a day's internet. If use the 500MB before the day is up, just pay another £2.
I believe T-Mobile do a similar thing although I understand they have a fair usage policy and if you go over it they throttle the speed down (I've also heard that if they throttle you, you stay throttled permanently but since I haven't used T-Mobile I can't confirm this).
