Update on SFD 2011. It seems that if we wish to hold a public event at Paignton Library for SFD 2011, then we will need to get our own public liability insurance to cover a minimum of £5 million. Talking to the "recommended" insurance companies community division, they have come back with a quote of £156. Assuming we have< 1,000 visitors. Apparently this will give us a years cover from the first event date so we can do other events if we wish. However if we are going to invest this sort of money + approx £60 an event for room hire, then we are talking about at least 4 events spread over a year to make good use of the insurance and its going to come to> £350.
Ahh I guess £156 for a year isn't too bad, but as you say we'd need to do a few events to make it worthwhile. Does this insurance just cover us at the one venue or does it cover us at things at different venues? (I'm thinking maybe something in Torbay, maybe something in Exeter, something in North Devon and some things in Cornwall).
If you want an SFD event and / or other events during the year to promote FLOSS then you are going to need to commit to donating both time and money to get it done, I'm not interested in "arm chair" activists anymore, I need people who are prepared to get off their butts and do something for FLOSS. Count me in. I can offer some time and something towards the funds (how much I can offer in funds depends on how my work situation goes).
