Although 3 would seem like a good option, I don't think it would work as effectively as 1/2. Maybe get a good event going on for 2011 in one place and then run a similar event elsewhere in 2012 - so we're planning a single event and rotating locations annually. I'll put my oar in and say that I'd be more than happy to give a talk on something. Obviously personal circumstances will have an effect on everybody's efforts - even if something had been planned for this year and I had volunteered my time to be there, I would have had to pull out... my wife was diagnosed with a 4-5mm renal stone on Wednesday morning which she is going to have to "pass naturally".
