Beware on replacing that HDD. There is one model and I beleive its the T42 that has a SATA-IDE bridge and therefore there are 'compatibility issues' with standard IDE drives. Ones that do work were given custom IBM Firmware, and if you replace it with a drive which doesnt have the IBM Firmware, the BIOS will moan every time you boot up (You can ignore the moan and continue to boot, but it cannot be disabled.) And as you would expect, because of the custom Firmware, IBM charge about 3x as much as buying it brown box.... OK, i just doublechecked on Http://forum.thinkpads.com and you're fine on that score, its the T43 that had this issue. T42 takes any IDE/PATA drive (though something to be aware of should you look to a T43 in future, apart from that little bit of idiocy, they are sweet machines) -- The Mailing List for the Devon & Cornwall LUG http://mailman.dclug.org.uk/listinfo/list FAQ: http://www.dcglug.org.uk/listfaq
