If you go outside of the towns and cities, the situation is just as bad, if not worse, than over here. Some friends of mine live in deepest rural France. After waiting months for FT to get themselves into gear and fit a phone line, and another while for them to decide that they were allowed to have ADSL, their modem connects at 2Mbit max, and only when the wind is going in the right direction - actual throughput is somewhat less. If you go into the cities, you get better speeds and more choice. As is the case over here. Not that far off from what some people experience with BT.
