I personally would not use skype for anything other than for free calls and then only under duress - but my family is out in portugal at the grandparents who are windows out there and I cant get out to anythingotherthanskype them. I wonder if one could use a skype client to route one off calls from other (proper) VOIP systems - if it takes input from pulseaudio and presumably some kind of voip phone front end then it should be possible to drive the skype client from something else? I guess you could do the same on windows too - and presumably the receiving end could do that too...Yes, I use it all the time, it's more relicable than SIP since it's already proxies, tunneled, and holepunched. I do hope that they are already encrypting my calls, if they're not, it's not very good and I will have to sue them. Mwuhahaha. But seriously, I wish I could use an open source product as easily without messing around with NATs and portforwards. I know various IM clients have good support for it, as well as on mobiles. E.g. Nimbuzz, etc. Good client for Linux. I noticed no differences apart from UI changes in the windoze one.
