I've been trying to get a few of the people at college to try some open source stuff and am enjoying a lot of success for a change. I've managed to push openoffice almost without opposition; it seems the last m$ office outing has left those who struggle a bit out in the cold after they "moved everything". Once I showed a small group they could load/save m$ formats they've done the job of evangalising for me. Anyway, to this end I've been asked to find two more alternatives: Something for making charts, mind maps, flow charts etc, like Smart Draw - eg very easy to use, semi-automatic. Something for converting PDF's or a way to get PDF's inside Openoffice text documents. I havent been asked to get text in, just downloaded charts etc found on the net. I couldn't push anything as "complicated" as gnuplot on anyone. Anyway, I've been hunting around all day, and found masses of shareware, freeware and suchlike, but isn't open source. Google isn't my friend today... Does anyone know of anything fairly easy to use that I can show off to the group? I'll carry on searching myself of course, but if you've seen something that makes it a doddle (or if openoffce does both these things already and I've just missed it!) let me know. Imagemagik will be too complex for them, nothing "command line" will be any good. Oh, and they're all still using either xp or vista..think it'll be a while before I get anyone to change on that note, although I am wondering about getting the IT department in on a "Free Software" demo... -- The Mailing List for the Devon & Cornwall LUG http://mailman.dclug.org.uk/listinfo/list FAQ: http://www.dcglug.org.uk/linux_adm/list-faq.html
