I'm sat here with my Creative Audigy 2 ZS attached to the Sony TA-73 amplifier, powering the Technics SB-3030 speakers and wondering what you people think of this cheapo setup. Cost something like £33 in total.

Yup - same for good mains cable - as in you only need to buy it once - and its 'acoustically' as good.
