DCGLUG is moving. Simon & I have a new, much faster, server via bytemark and the old server is heading for a deserved retirement. Currently, list email is being archived on both servers so the archive will be intact throughout. To make things easier for me, I've temporarily blocked edits to the Wiki on the old server. (You'll get a simple message or a 404, depending on which link is used.) Once the DNS updates, edits will be available on the new server. If there are issues, let me know. Note: bugs in the code on the old server will be retained on the new one - e.g. the GnuPG code. Please don't tell me about those - that code is already redundant due to the other change on this machine: drupal6. There is an instance of drupal6 available which will be investigated as a replacement for the current code. During development, new accounts will be disabled but I'll be inviting some people to have test accounts on drupal. (Initially I'll convert the login details of selected people into drupal accounts but once logged in, you can change things around yourselves.) The idea will be to have a gradual migration of the content from the old wiki into the new drupal site - not a straight copy but a chance to restructure the information and create new ways of interacting with the site, the members and the content. By offloading the bulk of the PHP code onto an active project with lots more contributors, I can afford to drop some of the more awkward parts of the old code, like the restrictions on passwords and usernames. However, please don't abuse this by creating dumb passwords once drupal is available - drupal will show you the strength or otherwise of the password and if I notice trivial passwords being used, I will delete affected accounts. OpenID logins will be supported. Those who have experience of drupal already are welcome to contribute ideas of what type of services we need from drupal. Not sure yet if drupal can be persuaded to subscribe new members to the mailing list at the same time as confirming the email address validity. Some parts of the current site (like the library and the map) will need to be retained - drupal is fine with external pages, just like the pages used by the archive. -- Neil Williams ============= http://www.data-freedom.org/ http://www.nosoftwarepatents.com/ http://www.linux.codehelp.co.uk/
