My son bought a netbook recently, eeePC. Then he had to buy a separate DVD drive to go with it. That certainly bumped up the price.
There is that. Printers and scanners are extra too and I use them all just as often. Personally I only use dvd drives to install a new OS. I just took out the harddrive, plugged it into a desktop and installed that way. Admittedly I only had to do that because my USB flash memory was broken, otherwise I'd have used unetbootin to make a liveusb thingy. All in all, it's not a handicap for me. If you watch alot of DVDs or something obviously that changes things.
