Are you trying to do this 'from' the XP system - if so you should be 
able to write a script and automate ftp'ing it from the XP system to the 
ftp on the linux system and set that going on XP's cron (runat?).
From the Linux box I guess you'd need to pull it in from a Samba share 
and set that running in cron.

if you do the latter above using most scripting languages you should be 
able to send yourself e-mails on fail (or success)
