The cost was still £100 per unit. We were sponsored by Gemini FM.I would comment that we put flat screens and a chunky server on the system so not much was actually recycled in the end.
Also the time to do it was bigger than I anticipated. Also you need a good plan to use it too.

With regard to the computers getting damaged, I think trevor at the exwick centre has released his designs for cupboards open source, so that could be worth looking at. end of the day its a risk one has to take, i think the less hardware that is exposed to the public the better, keyboards / mice can be replaced easily, even though that is not the point someone has to pay for replacements.
