Of course I agree with that. I do think people should always be considerate and try to decide whether the extra memory/storage/CPU needed is worth the thing you're trying to achieve (and seeing as that thing usually is laziness, the answer generally is: no). But a mail server apparently clogged by top-posted emails does sound like a problem at IT's side.
